About

Thanks for dropping by.  I'm Bella

Of course I love styling hair, but I also enjoy many other hobbies like: softball, rock climbing, skiing, running, riding motorcycles, dancing, doing crafts, and hanging out with friends. I've never been too into reading, but a few of my favorites books are: The Hunger Games trilogy, A Walk to Remember, and the Harry Potter Series. It's a tie for my top movie: either The Sandlot, or Remember the Titans.

I also love playing with little kids, especially babies. I'm the oldest of one sister and three brothers (one of which lives in heaven) so I've grown up loving kids. Ever since I was little, I always knew I either wanted to be a stunt double or a nurse. I haven't had any official dare-devil training (unless you count the rock climbing and my times on a dirt bike), so it's looking more like nursing.

I had two sources of inspiration for this blog. The first was my history teacher, and the second was my brother. Just after school had started in eighth grade, my teacher soon noticed that I hadn't styled my hair the same way twice. He was so surprised that he challenged me to come up with a new look for every day of the entire year....and I did. During that year, I also suffered the worst thing that has every happened to me. I watched my little brother spend his entire life in a NICU (newborn intensive care unit) and then die in my arms from a massive stroke.

As the school year went on, so many people were asking me to start a blog with all the creative hairdo's I had thought of. But it wasn't until after my brother had died that I truly believed I should put my hairstyling passion into practice, and hopefully earn my way through college to become a NICU nurse.

Hey, Guys.  I'm Miriam

I would like to hope I'm the creative genius behind Bella's ideas.  But the truth of it is, I've just been styling longer.  She's got the magic fingers.

I have a BA in music and teach voice lessons in my spare time.  I love to play the piano, sing, craft, sew, read, and hang out with my husband and friends.  I have two sweet daughters, two energetic sons, and a baby boy who soars with the angels.

My daughters have completely opposite hair.  Bella's is long, thick and straight, whereas Lanie's is thin, never grows, and slightly wavy.  The two opposites have forced me to get creative.  This blog is the product of many years with my fingers in people's hair, and the creativity that flows from Bella's ideas.
We hope you like it,
Bella & Miriam

  6. This is an awesome blog. I'm terrible at doing hair and this is so informative. Is there any way you can do a video for styles for people with very thin hair? Thank you!

  7. Thanks for the nice comment. Lanie's hair is also very thin, so any of her hairstyles would also work on yours. And we will add some thin hairstyles to our posts. Thanks for the feedback.

  13. Thank you so much. We love compliments. Here are the brush types we recommend. We prefer the porcupine. I hope this helps.

A BRISTLE BRUSH: is made of actual hair from a boar. They are ideal because they close the cuticle layer of your hair and make it softer and shinier.

A PORCUPINE BRUSH: is a boar brush that has some nylon bristles added in, usually grouped in tufts. It's a little stronger for getting through thicker hair, but both are much more gentle than a vent brush.

  15. Can you tell me how you get the volume\body in your hair in the above picture? I have a wand curling iron and when I use it my hair has gorgeous curls, but the top usually falls flat. Any suggestions?

    1. I use a root-elevator spray called "Big Sexy Hair". I got it at Walmart. Squirt it on your hair at the roots when it's wet and then blow dry it upside down, or pull the hair off your root while drying the first few inches. Here is the address to one of our videos where I show you how to use the "Big Sexy Hair"

And then I try to hold the wand as close to your root as you can to get the curls and body nice and high on your head. I hope that helps.
